Missouri beef producers interested in serving on the Cattlemens Beef Board have until June 1, 2014 to get their nominations in order. Missouri is one of several states with vacancies to be filled. To be considered for one of those vacancies, individuals must be nominated by a USDA Certified Producer Organization. in Missouri, those organizations include the Missouri Dairy Association, Missouri Cattlemens Association and Missouri Farm Bureau.
According to a release from the USDA, the Board is composed of 103 members representing 35 states and six geographic units. Board members include both producers and importers, and administers a research and promotion program authorized by the Beef Promotion and Research Act of 1985. The Secretary of Agriculture selects appointees from producers nominated by Certified Producer Organizations.
